This August, we are opening special spots for people of all ages to discover the power of Brazilian music in the heart of Barcelona’s summer, with the unique advantage of learning directly from an authentic master from Salvador de Bahía.

Batucada is a vibrant style of collective percussion originating from Brazil, famous for its ability to spread energy instantly.
In our summer course, you will learn to play from scratch in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
No prior musical knowledge is needed: you only need to bring your desire to enjoy and connect with the drum.

Learning batucada rhythms is fun, but learning them with the technique, body posture, and original swing from Bahia is a completely different experience. In most introductory workshops, sessions are guided by amateurs. At Ketubara, we take your learning seriously from day one:
- Professional pedagogy: Our director, Alex Rosa, has decades of experience sharing the rhythmic traditions of his native Salvador de Bahía in a didactic way, tailored to everyone regardless of their level.
- Real cultural connection: You won’t just learn to strike a drum; you will understand the roots, the cultural context of each rhythm, and the collective energy that only a native musician can convey.
- Careful technique: You will learn to play while taking care of your physical posture to play with power without getting tired or injured.

Worried about wanting more after the 4 sessions? Don’t worry! This intensive summer workshop is designed to be a vibrant and exciting first contact, but the rhythm doesn’t stop here.
If you discover that percussion is your passion (which we are sure it will be!), starting in September you can join our regular ongoing classes. In our school, we guide your technical progress step-by-step so you can evolve. The ultimate goal? If you set your mind to it and advance with us, you can progress to join the official Ketubara band to play in the streets, festivals, and major stages. You set the limit!

Who are we?
Ketubara is a percussion association based in Barcelona that has spent years filling streets and festivals with the most energetic rhythms of northeastern Brazil. Through our training project Ketu Escola, we decided to open our doors during the month of August as well. We want to share our passion for Brazilian percussion with technical rigor and lots of fun, under the guidance of our director, Alex Rosa, from Salvador de Bahía (Brazil).
